This is a general mail manipulation system that features a powerfull plugin architecture using Perl. It was designed to work with Exim but plans are underway to possibly make it more MTA independant.

iScan started off as a quick hack one night. My employer got hit by a virus and I needed a solution fast. This was I believe in 2000 before the huge selection of mail antivirus and anti spam solutions were available in the Open Source world.

I did a complete rewrite and redesign of the product in 2001 into what is now called iScan 2. The system as it stands is less advanced than many of the competitors and at this point – thanks to the availability of fairly large and high profile competition – it is probably a good idea to evaluate those before you consider iScan.

I use iScan on my own installation only for spam tagging, RBL based tagging and gathering of stats on my email which get placed in a SQL server for reporting. I find it works well for me and delivers a very good positive rate of spam tagged, somewhere in the region of 5000 messages a month enters my server that is Spam. I do my tagging using a plugin that speaks to Spamassassin.

You can read more about iScan on its website.

iScan is released under the Artistic Licence and I have developed it using specific permission from my employer.
