{"id":239,"date":"2005-04-11T23:39:32","date_gmt":"2005-04-11T22:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.devco.net\/?p=239"},"modified":"2009-10-09T17:04:51","modified_gmt":"2009-10-09T16:04:51","slug":"os_x_to_samba_slow_performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.devco.net\/archives\/2005\/04\/11\/os_x_to_samba_slow_performance.php","title":{"rendered":"OS X to Samba slow performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been really annoyed at this iBook since it was very very slow to my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samba.org\/\">Samba<\/a> servers &#8211; around 200kb\/sec &#8211; and no amount of fiddling the Samba could get it to go fast.<br \/>\nFirst I tested using my Windows machines to the Samba servers in question and they were very fast as you&#8217;d expect, the Apple just wasn&#8217;t fast at all.  Today when I got to work for the first time in ages I noticed that accessing my RedHat Enterprise Samba server is fast, so tonight I upgraded my Samba&#8217;s at home to version 3 and that fixed it.<br \/>\nSo if your OS X is performing slow to Samba servers, make sure you are on the 3 branch of Samba.<br \/>\n<B>UPDATE:<\/B> After this I was still having some issues, especially with very slow read performance.<br \/>\nI came across <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macosxhints.com\/article.php?story=2005030318025158\">this<\/a> post on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macosxhints.com\/\">macosxhints<\/a> and figured I&#8217;d give it a try, sorted, reading and writing is much faster now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have been really annoyed at this iBook since it was very very slow to my Samba servers &#8211; around 200kb\/sec &#8211; and no amount of fiddling the Samba could get it to go fast.
