It happens to everyone, while taking your photos you think they will come out great, and when you eventually get the prints back, or download the images you find they are washed out and totally dissapointing.
This simple to do technique will hopefully be able to fix some of them.

 


Open your image in Photoshop, and make sure its either a RGB Color or Grayscale image using the Image->Mode menu.
Make sure your layers palette is visible. Duplicate the background layer using Layers->Duplicate Layer….


Once you have a duplicate layer set the Blend Mode to Multiply. Setting the layer to Multiply will multiply darker areas of your image producing a darker overall image.
You can change the intensity of the effect by sliding the Opacity Slider to the left until you get the desired result.

Now all that’s left is to flatten the layers and save the image.
